Salut mon ami Hassan,

Al Manakh is the collaborative initiative to monitor, reveal and forecast new urban developments unfolding in the Gulf region. This analysis focuses on how the Gulf’s recent pace has not only shaped its own urban centers but also releases significant effects beyond its borders..

How the Gulf cities are reexamining their methods and their relationships with the rest of the world   www.almanakh.org

Following is a brief about TEDxRamallah and its link to Lebanon:

TED is a global conference that has propelled the spread of inspirational stories towards positive global change. People who become aware of TED Talks are usually hooked to it as a source for knowledge and effective thinking and action about some of the most relevant topics that impact our daily lives. Those are a few talks that we like to circulate, among countless in various fields,

Majora Carter - Talks about environmental justice

Ken Robinson - Schools kill creativity

Blaise Aguera y Arcas - Demos Photosynth

TEDxRamallah, a spin off of TED, is an opportunity to highlight inspirational stories of Palestine not only to a Ramallah based audience but equally to an Arab and to a global audience. The event is planned to take place at the Ramallah Cultural Palace on 16 April and will be livestreamed in various cities of which Beirut, Amman, Dubai (livestreaming consists of screening the talks in Ramallah live to other cities). Though TEDxRamallah is a one day event  all that takes place prior to the event from communication, collaboration, publication, data collection, and other forms of exchange, contributes to the aim of the event, to get people to know more about what is actually positive and stemming out of and around Palestine.

We are advancing steadily in Beirut where we have already held a few meetings, have formed a core team and will be holding discussions, presentations and training which will on the one hand engage a larger public but also bring out more content pertinent to positive seeds within the Palestinian context. The livestreaming in Beirut will allow the public to watch the event that they cannot attend in Ramallah (due to travel restrictions) and will include live insertions from Beirut (on stage: speakers, music, comedy, performance). Though focused in Beirut, we are also working towards having the livestream in the North and South, possibly in refugee camps pending on technical viability. The aim of having livestreaming of the event in Lebanon form Ramallah is twofold:

1. connecting the Palestinian community to what is positive and inspiring in Palestine.

2. an opportunity to bridge between the Palestinian and Lebanese communities through interacting and sharing knowledge, particularly in projecting a positive image about Palestinians to the Lebanese community.

Attached is an introduction to TED and TEDxRamallah which i hope you will find helpful. More up to date and dynamic is the website: www.tedxramallah.com and the various social media groups noted at the end of this email.

Subject: RE: Follow-up on Crystal Ball 2011, (D-1) day

Dear friends,

If you enter at the top right of the home page "Imad Abdullah" you shall find some answers; I published 3 of the magnificent crystal Ball in Culture->Publications; 2009 is viewed 266 times, 2010 193 and 2011 15 times in one week (published 23 dec.). Imad published other things, he is among few subscribers who entered his details (see Nour and Imad Abdullah) in the list "Les MLF de Damas" accessed only for those who have id and pwd.

I am very grateful for your daily contributions, this is the reason for asking the web administrator to extend number of "Nouveaux articles", "Articles les + lus" to 30 instead of 20.

May I have a special request: Though I believe in electronic publishing; those among you who prefer to address traditional publishing instead; please send me an extract of your writings for publishing at mlfcham site, because we can never predict when and where to find the appropriate editor.

N.B. I asked the web administrator how to publish and sell ebooks on our website? This project needs a long study, possibly a six months one, but this is the future.

Finally how among you read the revised version of "Devenir membre"?

With my best wishes

Amin Elsaleh

Objet : Follow-up on Crystal Ball 2011

Cher Demci,

Je suis tres honore' de recevoir ta lettre et j'espere qu'on se rencontre pour continuer le dialogue.

I started doing the Crystal Ball at the end of 1999 when the computers were going to crash at midnight of the year 2000. It was one page only that I included in the Christmas greetings, and the style started then since there was so much hype going on. I very much appreciate all your comments and especially that now you know me well through my thoughts. The write-up was intended in great part to have like minds interconnect through the ideas and anecdotes presented, and it connects me yearly with friends wherever they are.

I normally write articles about urban issues and real estate, and was published in the local papers and business journals frequently. I am working on a book related to urban and real estate issues and how capitalism can be in conflict with urbanism, and the impact on cities. As the Crystal Balls through the past years are practically ready, I am doing the research on various avenues to publish them in a book.

Thank you again, and I look forward to hearing some of your endeavours and interests.

With all my best to you and to all our colleagues copied on our correspondence.

(Our dear friend Amin was kind enough to post last year's Crystal in addition to this one on the mlfcham website. Both of us were of the mlf class of 1963, and actually sat on the same desk from 1st grade through 5th).

Très cher ami Imad, salut.

En lisant ton article si fabuleux, je me demande est-ce que je suis devant un architecte ou bien d'un archi- rédacteur.

Chapeau! Ton Crystal Ball 2011 a survolé partout,

The Crystal Ball 2011 is the 12th annual greetings, whimsical and satirical, with featherweight and some weight, reflections and projections on the past, present, and the future.

Imad
